  • Elvis Costello

There was a great TV show called Crossroads that matched up a country artist with a rocker. I was performing with Lucinda Williams and it was great to have Elvis Costello as the musical partner. We ending playing quite a few tunes with Elvis as well as a inspiring version of Wild Horses.

  • Emmylou HARRIS

I was playing a John Prine show at the Old Town School of Music when many other great of the Americana world performed as well. We were the house band that night and one of my highlights was playing with EmmyLou.

  • Lyle Lovitt

Another performer with John Prine at the Old Town School of Music was Lyle Lovitt. Our guitar tech, Maple, also worked with him so it became a family affair.

  • Paul Schaffer

I was lucky enough to perform on the Letterman show with a few artists. With John Prine, Paul played a spot on piano for our tune Picture Show.

  • Bonnie Raiit

When John Prine asked me if I would ever go out and tour with him, the tour was opening up for Bonnie Raitt. I was able to bring my Brothers Figaro partner, Bill Bonk and my old mentor, Roly Salley played the bass. We always came up at the encore and played Angel From Montgomery with her band.

  • John Prine on Letterman

After John Prine's album The Missing Years became a underground hit, we were asked to play the Letterman show. He could only bring me because we used the house band. I was so scared before I played, but had such a great time for one song!

  • Van Dyke Parks

When Bill Bonk and I fulfilled a lifelong dream of a major record deal with The Brothers Figaro, we asked to have Van Dyke write a string quartet for our tune 1959, since we heard a great string arrangement on the first Peter Case record. It was a continuation of our rock and roll fantasy!

  • Liza Minelli

I was asked to do a reality show that was centered around a man with cancer wanting to get married to his long time girlfriend. His fantasy was to have Liza sing New York, New York at his wedding and I was the piano player. My favorite moment was when Liza screamed out to me 'take it from the top, Charlie' (she didn't know my name!)
